Berrima Scout Camp

1st Helensburgh Family Camp

DATE: 6TH – 8TH AUGUST 2010

Berrima is a unique and historic village. Established in 1831, it is the only example of an existing and largely preserved Australian Georgian colonial town. Berrima is located in a picturesque valley on a bend of the Wingecarribee River.

The Berrima village has a variety of antique shops, art galleries, crafts, clothing, gourmet food & drinks, confectionery, toys and collectables. The town also has a number of attractions; Berrima Court House and Harpers Mansion. Berrima is a popular destination for the following activities; Birdwatching, Wildlife, Fishing, Bushwalking and Water Activities.

This camping weekend away is open to all Cubs and Scout families of 1st Helensburgh. The venue is the Berrima Scout Camp. The Scout Camp is located 1km from the town centre.

As this will be a family camp you will need to provide the following for yourselves;

  • Travel to and from the venue will be your responsibility.
  • You are to cater for your own families Food and Drinks for the entire weekend (this includes your Cub or Scout). The Leaders will not be supplying any food or drinks.
  • You will need to provide your own tent or caravan (see accommodation details below). Scout Leaders will provide a dining fly for everyone to mingle at meal times. We will have two BBQs and some gas stoves available for everyone to use.

Accommodation

Unfortunately there are limited cabins available. Please contact Possum immediately if you require cabin accommodation. This will be allocated on a first in basis.

There is room for Caravans, Camp Trailers or Campervans. Please notify Possum as soon possible if you are going to have any of these vehicles. We need to notify the camp wardens in advance of how many of these will be present.

The final option is of course, to camp. As this is in August it will be relatively cold, so make sure you are prepared for this type of weather. If you do not have a tent, please contact Possum or Tassie. We should be able to arrange something for you.

Note: As this is a family camp, the Cubs and Scouts will be camping with you (the parents). However, if some Scouts want to camp together please let us know, so we can have some tents available.

Suggested Itinerary

Friday Night

We will arrive at the Camp Friday night and set up the equipment and tents. Starting time will be provided closer to the event.

Saturday

We plan to book a group tour of the town in the morning, which will include a tour of the Court House (the kids will be involved in a pretend court session) and Harpers Mansion (this is an historic trust house. It also has a maze for the children to get lost in). The afternoon will be yours to explore as a family. We plan to meet back again for dinner and have a group campfire that night.

Sunday

We plan to have a Scouts Own and do some fishing and maybe a small bushwalk and finish up in the early afternoon.

If anyone has any suggestions we would be more than happy to accommodate this in the Itinerary. We understand that many of you have sporting or other commitments on one of the days, so if you can only
make it for one night or the day, please let us know. We would like you to be involved in some of the fun, rather than missing out altogether.
