Welcome

The aim of Scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual, and social development of young people so they may play a constructive role in society as responsible citizens and as members of their local and international communities.

This aim is achieved through a strong and active program that inspires young people to do their best and to always be prepared.

The 1st Helensburgh Scout Group is located at the Northern-most point of Wollongong (otherwise known as the Northern Illawarra), one hour south of Sydney, as part of the South Coast and Tablelands region, and in 2011 enjoys its centenary, and still going strong.

Our Group is always looking for new members and leaders. Activities include camping, hikes, canoeing, indoor rock climbing, cooking, construction and life skills as well as other fun outings. This website has been created as a useful resource to both parents and children of the group - we welcome your input to make it functional and fun!

New parents and families

Welcome to 1st Helensburgh Scout Group. We hope that you and your children will have many happy years involved with our group. 1st Helensburgh Scout group has a rich history and after 100 years, still has more to offer our youth and families. We look forward to having your child experience new challenges and adventures with us, as we believe in teaching outdoor skills, life skills and leadership skills in a supportive and enriching environment.

As a Group, we encourage our youth to assist in the organisation of activities and take part in numerous outdoor adventures. By employing the six / patrol/ unit council method, we establish a culture where Cubs, Scouts and Venturers learn how to plan, prioritise, delegate and lead.

Scouting offers children a place to learn life skills while taking part in outdoor programs and projects that will challenge and inspire them. Participation is the key to success. Though our children are busy with school, sports and other extracurricular  activities, it is important for them to take part in meetings, activities and camps in order to develop the skills required to advance and succeed as a Scout and obtain life skills that will further their careers in later life.

We enjoy seeing parents at the hall and encourage you to become active along with your child, and you are welcome to stay for the fun and activities. We particularly like to see you in the hall 5 minutes before the end of every meeting as we do not allow our youth to wait out the front for parents. We also appreciate help with packing up, particularly after Cubs, Joeys and social events.

Please take the time to browse this website and learn more about our program and structure.
